Day One, JOYFUL MYSTERIES, Friday May 1, 2015, FEAST St. Joseph the Worker

54-Day Rosary Novena

First of all, the reader will notice that the Mysteries announced for today are the Joyful Mysteries, even though it is a Friday, on which the Sorrowful Mysteries are customarily said.  This is because we follow the original plan for the 54-Day Rosary Novena as given in a private revelation by the Blessed Virgin Mary to a young girl named Fortuna Agrelli. Fortuna, burdened with an incurable disease, along with her family began a novena of Rosaries.

The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Fortuna, sitting on a throne and surrounded by angel, with the Child Jesus on her lap, and a Rosary in her hand.

Our Lady spoke:
"Child, you have invoked me by various titles and have always obtained favors from me. Now, since you have called me by that title [Queen of the Holy Rosary] so pleasing to me, I can no longer refuse the favor you petition; for this name is most precious and dear to me. Make three novenas, and you shall obtain all.  Whoever desires to obtain favors from me should make three novenas of prayers of the Rosary in petition and three novenas in thanksgiving."
Young Fortuna faithfully prayed the Novenas and was cured.  In our Novena for the Consecration of Russia, we attempt to faithfully pray the Novena as given to Fortuna Agrelli by our Blessed Mother.  This plan is given by Our Lady and we follow it faithfully here. It is as follows:

  • Three Novenas of nine days each in petition to Our Blessed Mother for the Conversion of Russia. You are encouraged to add your own intentions as well, but please remember the main purpose of the Novena is to petition Heaven for the Consecration of Russia by the Holy Father in union with the Catholic Bishops of the World.
  • The Novena is to be said in the following manner: Day One, Joyful Mysteries; Day Two, Sorrowful Mysteries; Day Three, Glorious Mysteries. The same pattern is repeated throughout. We do not include the Luminous Mysteries, as the plan was given with the traditional Rosary Mysteries.
  • In order to do the Novena properly, one will pray five decades of the Rosary daily. HOWEVER, if one misses a day inadvertently, please continue to join us in prayer. Even if you are having a hard time with it, come back and persevered. The Rosary is powerful. Never abandon it. Simply come back and continue. After all, Fifty-Three Rosaries said for the cause of the Consecration of Russia is far, far better than missing a day and dropping the Novena.
  • People have asked if they can say the Rosary in their customary way and include the intention. Yes, of course. We will be sticking with the program here. DO stay and enjoy the Catholic art we will post each day, and the spiritual reflections from saints and from those with a reputation for holiness, and postings concerning the richness of the Church's Liturgical Year that we plan to post here.
  • Pray your Rosary, wear your scapular. Make many acts of reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The destination of our souls and those of our loved ones are at stake. The message of Our Lady of Fatima is the hope of the world. Following Fatima is the path given to us by God for World Peace and the salvation of many souls.  This message is URGENT and the time to act and pray is NOW.
(Information concerning the 54-Day Rosary Novena is from the website fatima.org)

Concerning the Rosary Novena, we usually try to begin and end our Novenas on important feast days of the Church, and to adopt the Saints of the Day as our patrons.  Today is the Feast of St. Joseph, the Worker.  We adopt him as our Patron under the title St. Joseph, Patron of the Universal Church.  At Fatima in October 1917, on the day of the great Miracle of the Sun, St. Joseph, holding the Child Jesus, blessed the world. He presents himself in his usual unassuming way as a powerful Patron who we as individuals and the Church can go to to guide us in our lives in a serene, sure manner in our journey to Heaven.  Joseph most chaste! Joseph most strong! Joseph most obedient! Solace of the wretched! Hope of the sick! Patron of the dying! Terror of demons! Protector of the holy Church, pray for us!

Ad Te Beate Joseph
(Leo XIII)
To thee, O blessed Joseph, do we come in our tribulation, and having implored the help of thy most holy Spouse, we confidently invoke thy patronage also. Through that charity which bound thee to the immaculate Virgin Mother of God and through the paternal love with which thou embraced the Child Jesus, we humbly beg thee to graciously regard the inheritance which Jesus Christ has purchased by his Blood, and with thy power and strength to aid us in our necessities.

O most watchful Guardian of the Holy Family, defend the chosen children of Jesus Christ; O most loving father, ward off from us every contagion of error and corrupting influence; O our most mighty protector, be propitious to us and from heaven assist us in our struggle with the power of darkness; and, as once thou rescued the Child Jesus from deadly peril, so now protect God's Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity; shield, too, each one of us by thy constant protection, so that, supported by thy example and thy aid, we may be able to live piously, to die holy, and to obtain eternal happiness in heaven. Amen.

PLEASE REMEMBER THE SOUL OF FR. NICHOLAS GRUNER IN YOUR PRAYERS
Fr. Nicholas Gruner, who died of a heart attack Wednesday evening, April 29, did more to bring Our Lady of Fatima's message to light than anyone else in the world today. Fr. Gruner spent his life totally in promotion of the message of Our Lady of Fatima.  His tender love for our Blessed Mother was obvious to anyone who ever met him or heard him speak.

Following the example of Fr. Gruner, may we NEVER lose an opportunity to learn about and spread the message of Our Lady of Fatima. In eternity we will be forever grateful if we followed the directives of Our Blessed Mother as faithful sons and daughters, as Father so often reminded us. We have much to learn from his example. Requesiat in Pace, Fr. Nicholas Gruner
